The Dutch group Parlevliet &an der Plas made a very good catch two years ago by acquiring Deutsche see, the market leader in seafood products in Germany. “The effects of the takeover are very positive, especially for our supplies,” comments Andreas Kremer, Marketing and Communications Director at Deutsche See.

In Bremerhaven, the company processes around 3,000 tons of seafood from all over the world every day. Species n°1: Salmon, available in fresh, frozen and smoked versions, “with more than 300 different products”. Also in the lead: Sea bream, cod, shrimp and tuna. With a nice emphasis on skrei, the cod from the Lofoten Islands and Naturland wildfish-certified North Sea saithe, bought exclusively from Kutterfisch, the only certified company in the German fleet. The impressive smoking workshop in Bremerhaven produces its own sawdust and smokes salmon, herring, mackerel, eel, arctic char, sprat, trout, shrimps, Greenland halibut, redfish, rollmops... The refined range also includes Gillardeau oysters.

Marketing half of its quantities as fresh products delivered the next day, Deutsche See has 19 branches in Germany. 95% of its sales are made on the German market, and in neighbouring countries such as Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg. The turnover is split 50/50 between retail and catering, with a complete offer dedicated to canteens in crèches and schools: a menu plan with a nutritional balance designed for children, customised portioned fillets, various recipes (sticks, breaded, marinated, cooked in sauce) and side dishes.

A major job provider, Deutsche See has nearly 800 employees in Bremerhaven and 1,000 in its branches, and is not immune to recruitment difficulties for filleting.
